We were so excited to visit Napoli on the Road in our own little neighbourhood of Chiswick. It is for sure a little piece of Napoli in the heart of Chiswick.
An award-winning creation
Napoli on the Road is proud to announce that it has been awarded 8th place in the prestigious 50 Top Pizza Awards 2023, a prestigious global competition which ranks the best pizzerias around the world. Head chef and founder Michele Pascarella has also been named Pizza Maker of the Year 2023. The pizzeria achieved the 8th best pizzeria in Europe in the prestigious awards, which makes it the second-best pizzeria in the UK.
The 50 Top Pizza Awards is an annual event that recognises the best pizzerias in the world, based on a rigorous selection process involving anonymous visits by experienced pizza critics. This year’s edition saw thousands of pizzerias from around the world compete for the coveted top spot.
The concept
Michele Pascarella started Napoli on the Road serving pizza on the go in his Ape Piaggio. He mainly sold his delicious creations at farmer’s markets but his goal was always to open his own pizzeria. In 2019 the dream became a reality with Napoli on the Road’s first pizzeria launching in Chiswick.
Napoli on the Road is famous for its innovative, contemporary Neapolitan pizza, offering truly unique twists on the much-loved dish. The pizzeria’s focus is on experimentation and innovation, using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients to create distinctively delicious flavour combinations. Napoli on the Road has built a cult following due to its creative seasonal inventions, which truly push the boundaries in terms of taste, and is regarded as one of the best places to enjoy Neapolitan pizza in London.
My Napoli on the Road experience
The room looks and feels very authentically Italian. The big pizza oven draws you in and many items have been handmade in Italy. The room is adorned with fresh lemon trees which create a fresh feel and it was buzzing with locals enjoying pizza.
We had to start with the classic margarita and this was simply divine. I absolutely love a good margarita and this was simply one of the best I have ever tried. Andrea was explaining how they source the sweet tomatoes which are grown in the volcanic soils back in Italy.
Our next arrival was the fun Cheesewick. I could not wait to try this authentic signature pizza which is topped with buffalo mozzarella DOP, ricotta cheese, stracciatella di bufala, blue stilton, parmesan and piennolo cherry tomato jam. The thing that really stood out was how light the pizza dough is which just allows you to enjoy more!
So for the finale, it was Andreas favourite the Ricordi D’infanzia (which translates as childhood memories) – made with 12 hours of slow-cooked ragu napoletano and 24 months parmigiano reggiano cream; and the new Tonno & Scarola- featuring fresh fior di latte from Caserta, crunchy escarole, semi dry cherry tomato, tuna fillets from Cetara, black olive powder and sweet reduction of red onion.
